Archaeologists discover Thracian golden jewelry — Archaeologists say they have unearthed an almost 2,400-year-old golden hoard in an ancient Thracian tomb in northern Bulgaria.

The treasure was found on Thursday near the village of Sveshtari, 400 kilometers (250 miles) northeast of Sofia, team leader Diana Gergova said.

She said that among the artifacts, dating back to the end of the fourth or the beginning of the third century B.C., were gold jewelry and applications for horse trappings, a tiara with reliefs of lions and fantasy animals, as well as four bracelets and a ring. Facebook's Newest Overnight Celebrity - The newest Facebook star comes in feline form. Meet Colonel Meow, the housecat turned social media celebrity. Currently, the furry Seattle-based kitty has more than 10,000 likes on Facebook and a steadily growing following.  So how did Colonel Meow develop such a fan base?

Colonel Meow's owner, Ann Marie Avey, started a Facebook page for her companion when she decided that his personality -- which always kept her laughing -- should be shared with the masses. Colonel Meow's page has photos and videos of him with creative captions that highlight his eccentric qualities. One such caption reads, "My master is so happy that I have so many friends...what she calls 'friends' I call 'minions.'" Another caption reads, "Darth Vader is my idol, I want a kitty mask just like his."

Oh yeah, did I mention that he calls his fans and followers minions? Avey has even started a contest in Colonel Meow's honor. Fans are asked to submit photos of themselves with their favorite Colonel Meow facial expression, and "the most worthy will be chosen" as the Facebook cover for as long he sees fit.

Avey originally set up the fan page for Colonel Meow on August 9, after her friend, Kirsten Martin, posted a story about him on the Cheezburger in the 'Daily What' section.

As odd as it may seem to start a fan page for a cat, Avey insists, "I'm not a crazy cat lady, but this cat is crazy and fun." Apparently, Colonel Meow's fans are all for the fun. One person commented, "I always wanted to be a minion." Another wrote, "If this cat ever has mini me's, I so have dibs."

Israeli police trample on Aqsa grounds and boy's head, while eyes on East Bank-Jordan's protests  - A video has surfaced showing Israeli police smashing a teenage boy's head to the ground during an incursion into the revered Aqsa compound in Jerusalem Friday. Police had fired tear gas and stun grenades at a group of worshipers Friday protesting the entry of illegal Jewish settlers into Islam's third holiest site earlier this week.

The video exposes further the brutality of Friday's attack where witnesses reported several arrests and some injuries. It shows a boy being dragged across the ground, and pinned down as he screams "Khalas", or enough. Police then hit his head against the stone floor in a quick and forceful swing of the arm.

Many youth and injured sought refuge in the Haram el-Sharif mosque, or Dome of the Rock, as police clad in black stood stationed around it during the incursion.

Reuters reported that protesters hurled stones at police during their protest, and Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld claims that one of the demonstrators tried to stab a police officer and that only one Palestinian was arrested.

Israelis have made repeated threats to demolish the Aqsa mosque, considered the third holiest site in Islam, in order to build a Jewish temple in its stead. The move would accelerate redemption, according to some Jewish religious authorities.

Some thirty illegal Jewish settlers toured the compound this week under heavy police protection, a move that has been interpreted by Palestinians as an attempt to assert Israeli claims to the site, named Temple Mount in Jewish tradition. ( albawaba.com )

Thousands of Indonesian Muslims protest against anti-Islam film - Thousands of Muslims enraged over a film that denigrates the Prophet Muhammad have marched through Indonesia's capital.

Jakarta police spokesman Col. Rikwanto estimates at least 5,000 people joined the demonstration Sunday. They marched to the U.S. Embassy, which was guarded by hundreds of police, and staged a noisy but peaceful protest.

Participants in the rally, organized by the Islamic-based Prosperous Justice Party, chanted anti-American slogans and shouted "Allah akbar," or "God is great."

Many wore traditional white robes and held big banners reading, "Go to hell with your freedom of expression, Muslims unite against insults to Islam."
